This quarter has been a very productive one for the Black River Family and Consumer Sciences and FCCLA program. Family and Consumer Sciences chef/culinary students have been busy working on their Food Truck Projects. Students learn entrepreneurship skills, create a food truck business plan, menu, and even create a three dimensional food truck for this project. They then create a recipe that would be on their food truck menu, and will then cook the food for their food truck presentation. Child Development students are learning about child development for birth through school age children this quarter. Introduction to FCS students are working on cooking strategies and will start a sewing project for service in the next few days.
FCCLA just returned from regional competition, and earned seven gold medals and five silver medals in 12 different events! We will find out on March 19 the career development event students who will advance to state competition! Many hours have been put into these projects, and I am so proud of each and every one of the twenty one students who chose to do a career development event! FCCLA continues to meet weekly in the cafeteria for leadership, team building, service and a snack. The officer team is working hard on meeting agendas to keep members engaged and learning about leadership.
We have two chapter members running for state executive council (state office) this spring! Brock Martin and Abby Demczyk are in the process of putting together their applications, creating speeches for their interviews, and reviewing for the FCCLA knowledge test for their state officer interviews that will happen on April 5 in Columbus.
