Subject: Difficult News and Support Resources for Our Students, Staff, and Community

Dear Black River Local School District Community,

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Tye Miezejewski, a sixth-grader at our middle school. Tye was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in the late afternoon on Friday, May 24, 2024. Our prayers are extended to Tye’s family and friends during this difficult time.

During challenging moments like these, it is essential to provide support for our students who may be struggling with their concerns and emotions. Counselors will be available at Black River Middle School starting Tuesday, May 28, and continuing throughout the week to offer assistance and guidance. We encourage you to use these resources and prompt your children to seek help if they are struggling to cope with this situation.

Furthermore, we strongly urge parents and caregivers to maintain open communication with their children, paying close attention to any changes in behavior or emotional well-being. Creating a safe space for dialogue is crucial and your involvement can make a significant difference during these tough times.

In times of adversity, the strength of our community becomes paramount. As a school district family, let us come together to provide support and compassion to one another. Should you require additional assistance or resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to school administrators.

As arrangement details become available, the district will keep you informed.

Our heartfelt prayers remain with Tye’s family and friends. Let us collectively keep them in our thoughts and extend support to one another.

Sincerely,

Chris A. Clark, Superintendent
