About Black River Elementary School

Here at Black River Elementary, we have a shared vision of honoring our tradition, supporting our community, and educating our future. We are dedicated to achieving academic excellence in our building and hold our students to high expectations. This school year we will be continuing with PBIS.  Our goal is to empower students to be respectful, responsible, ready, and resourceful.  The staff provides a positive and safe learning environment to work with our students academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.  We promote these PBIS behaviors in order to provide the best learning opportunities and good citizenship.

At Black River Elementary, we work together with parents to help children reach their full potential. We invite parents to get involved in our school.  You can join us as a classroom volunteer for a special event, become a chaperone for field trips, or by joining us for our special evening functions.

Academically, we have i-Pads for all learners in grades K-1 and we will continue to use the Chromebooks in grades 2-5.  It is going to be an exciting year as we continue to use guided reading and writing groups to address the literacy needs of each student.  Students will receive  instruction in phonics and phonemic awareness, creating a strong foundation in the area of reading.  Our teachers work diligently to ensure our students learn skills that connect to real-world experiences in the areas of math, social studies, and science. We also have art, music, gym, library, and technology classes each week for our K-5 learners.  Our report cards will continue to be standards-based this year in grades K-4.  Fifth grade report cards will receive letter grades.
